Beauty Standards
There are over 7 billion people on earth and every single one looks different. No matter how much people say that being different is unique, they are wrong. When we talk about beauty we often think of a flawless skin having idealistic body features such as long legs, big eyes, fair face , etc. People have flaws and its normal but its the society which has set a "beauty standard" with the help of media and celebrities, that often make people question their looks.
This standard is just a definition of what society considers being "beautiful ". No one on this planet is exactly the same, but people still feel the need to meet this standard. Everyone has two sides to them; there is the one that says "you are perfect just the way you are", while the other side puts you down and you tell yourself " I have to change, I have to fit in."
Let's talk about the body. You shouldn't think about how much you weigh.Talking about my body type, it is not perfect. I am skinny along with a brown skin tone. Since childhood, I have been said by a lot of people to change my skin color and become fair so that I can perfectly fit into an "idealistic girl" norm. But on the contrary, I just love the way I am. I can change myself but I don't want.
There is an issue in our culture today if when 500 women were asked what they feared most in the world, 190 replied " getting fat". To my shock in a world were there is rape, murder, death and war, almost half of the individuals from the survey were most afraid of gaining some weight, a natural thing that happens because women eat, get pregnant and are sometimes too busy doing more important things than going to the gym. It has reached a point where women are starving themselves and throwing up their food just to be pretty in the eyes of society. Isn't these a funny thing?
Everyone is born with a certain body type and I think that the beauty should be in the uniqueness of every women's body. We should be celebrating the differences instead of trying to force everyone to look alike and guilting everyone who doesn't fit into the mold. Instead of these girls feeding themselves, they are being told by the society to feed " the fashion, beauty, diet, surgery, media and pornography industries".
The beauty standard will always be around unless we do something to change that. How can you say to yourself that you are not beautiful? Well I guess then you haven't seen yourself while concentrating, being extremely tired or fascinated. Just try to feel the way that is comfortable for you. Start embracing yourself.
For sure, everyone on this planet is amazing but remember that " You are your own kind of beautiful " . So stay strong, eat a lot of food, love yourself and be grateful for being alive.
